Oh Ted…..

Ted Williams, the formerly homeless viral star who captivated the web with his “golden radio voice,” was detained by the authorities Monday night after police responded to a disturbance at a Los Angeles hotel, Entertainment Tonight reported overnight.

The new voice of Kraft and his grown daughter were detained around 9 PM PT after an alleged “yelling altercation” at Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. Richard French, a spokesperson from the LAPD, confims that units arrived on the scene after hotel security called police.

The two individuals were transported to a police station, but no charges were filed and no arrests were made.

Williams and his daughter are staying at the Renaissance prior to an appearance on Dr. Phil this week. Williams, 53, reunited with Patricia Williams , the partially-blind ex-wife he abandoned and the mother of five of his nine children, in a two-part episode of “Dr. Phil” that will air Tuesday and Wednesday (01-12-11). He reunited with his mother after not seeing her for more than 20 years on The TODAY Show last week.

The investigation is ongoing, but this isn’t the first brush with the law for Williams, a sober alcoholic and recovering drug addict, according to The Smoking Gun. The Brooklyn native reportedly has a lengthy rap sheet that spans more than 20 years. Ted’s been picked up on charges including theft, robbery, escape, forgery, and drug possession.

Williams has been living on the streets of Columbus, Ohio for years after drugs and alcohol dragged him into a life of petty crime. Ted says he’s been sober for two years, but had been having trouble landing work. He quickly rose to fame last week after a reporter captured his voice on a video and posted the clip online. Millions of views later, job offers started pouring in – including requests to do announcing work for the Cleveland Cavaliers and an announcer’s gig for a radio station in Hawaii.

The story of Ted’s redemption has been so inspiring that FOX 59, a local television station in Indianapolis, has embarked on a search for the next homeless viral star.

Yes…we’re serious. Watch as one reporter walks around randomly “auditioning” downtrodden folks on the streets.

We’re not sure whether to laugh or cry.
