On Thursday, FOX announced that it is renewing its Emmy-winning animated series The Simpsons for an unprecedented 23rd season, taking the show through Episode 515.
Ay Carumba!
“Like many 22-year-olds, ‘The Simpsons’ is extremely happy remaining at home, on Fox, and hopes it doesn’t have to go out into the real world for many years to come,” said Al Jean, Simpsons executive producer.
He added: “Part of my job is being the grumpy guy who says, ‘No, we did that, we did that.’ Once you hit on something you haven’t done, we’ve got these great characters and voices and this terrific production that turns it into something really special.”
The landmark episode will be broadcast in 2012, extending The Simpsons’ record as the longest-running primetime series in American history.
