Unveiling the catalogues detailing the feature and non-feature programmes of the 42nd International Film Festival of India, Shankar Mohan, Director, IFFI and AK Bir, renowned filmmaker announced the index on Indian Cinema, World Cinema and a handbook on World Cinema on yesterday. Also present on the occasion were DP Reddy, Joint Secretary(films),Ministry I&B and Manoj Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer, ESG This 42nd IFFI is all set to bring in the biggest celebrities and luminaries from the movie world and showcase handpicked cinema from over the world. With cultural innovations showcasing the best of Indian culture and cinema of the world bringing international sensibilities to the Indian shores, this potpourri of cinematic excellence makes for an interesting watch for the audiences.
With Shah Rukh Khan inaugurating the 42nd International Film Festival of India today, the festival kicks off at the pristine locales of Goa and will continue till 3rd of December. Apart from cinematic geniuses on show, in this 42nd International Film Festival of India celebrities like Bertrand Tavernier, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and others along with glamour celebrities like Rahul Khanna, Tisca Chopra, Rituparna Sengupta will grace this movement of cinematic excellence.
Special in its own way, this year the IFFI acknowledges technological breakthrough by bringing in a special section on 3D films and animation apart from premieres, international screenings, homages to stalwarts, industry oriented workshops, masterclasses by industry professionals and much more. Apart from the movie screenings, this festival will also see a section on documentaries which will bring in short filmmakers along with a section of student films by young filmmakers from film schools like FTII, SRFTI and MGRFTI.
Emphasising the element of ‘change’, the International Film Festival of India in its newest avatar showcases the Indian Panorama which being a reflect of the Indian culture is being opened by the Malayalam film ‘Urumi’ and will showcase eclectic Indian movies like ‘Ranjana Ami Ar Asbo Na’, ‘Zindagi Milegi Na Doobara’, ‘Noong Amadi Yeroom’, and much more. While the Indian Panorama will have the best of Indian cinema on offer, the International competition will have the best of International cinema on Indian shores which will bring to the audience packages of eclectic international movies which opening with the ‘The Consul of Bordeaux’ will bring in international movies like ‘Bullhead’, ‘Elana’, ‘Porfirio’, ‘Restoration’, ‘Volcano’ and others.
While the festival aspires to become the biggest international film festival of the world, it brings together international luminaries and cinematic geniuses which make this festival, one to look out for. Attractions like the Retrospective section, which screens acclaimed movies of eminent film personalities like legendary French film director Luc Besson and acclaimed Australian director Phil Noyce will have Luc Besson coming down to India exclusively to attend the closing ceremony and interact with Indian audiences.
While the retrospective honours cinematic geniuses, it is the 3D and Animation packages which will bring along a technological revolution in this year’s extravaganza. Screening 3D stereoscopic movies which are chosen not for their stereoscopic content, but also for the excellence in handling the medium, the package will be a first of its kind across international film festivals and will aim to showcase the technological innovations films have made over the years.
This festival which has quite a focus on countries and regions will bring in special spotlight films from USA like Corman’s World and Chevolution, Polish films like Made in Poland and My Name is Ki, Russian Classics like Uncle Vanya and The Mirror, European movies like She Monkeys and A Quiet Life, and more. While screening movies from across the world, this year, IFFI will bring in a round-up of movies which have won accolades over at international film festivals like Cannes, Locarno, Montreal and Busan in the ‘Festivals Kaleidoscope’ package which will screen movies like Nino, The Artist, Chronicle of My Mother and others.
With much change happening in this year’s festival, glamour gods will add a definitive zing to this year’s proceedings which will complete the billing of this year’s IFFI as the glamorous best in the world. While Shah Rukh Khan will be inaugurating the festival, the Southern Superstar Suriya will add spice to the closing ceremony. Apart from cinematic geniuses on show, this 42nd International Film Festival of India will also bring in luminaries like Bertrand Tavernier, Michelle Yeoh, Laurance Kardish, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Dan Wolman and others along with glamour celebrities like Raima Sen, Dino Morea and Prem Chopra, to grace this movement of cinematic excellence.
