Anne Rice is so over Jesus.

On her Facebook page Wednesday, the author behind the vampire fiction hit Interview with a Vampire, announced that she is turning in her Born-Again Card after refusing to adapt to a number of Christian doctrines.

The 68-year-old gothic novelist says she refuses to be “anti-gay … anti-feminist,” and “anti-artificial birth birth control.”

She adds that “In the name of … Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.”

“For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian. I’m out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being ‘Christian’ or to being part of Christianity. It’s simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten …years, I’ve tried. I’ve failed. I’m an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else….I quit being a Christian. I’m out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of…”

Raised as a Catholic, Rice shunned religion for much of her adult, but renewed her faith in recent years and effectively retired from writing the dark material that made her a literary legend. In 2008, she released the memoir Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession.

Anne Rice’s books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
