Bollywood director Ashutosh Gowariker unveiled the promo of his forthcoming film ”Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se” in Mumbai.

The film, based on the period thriller ”Do and Die” by Manini Chatterjee, stars Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.

Gowariker recounted how he cast Bachchan and Padukone in the lead roles.

“After I finished reading the book, I realized that it needs actors who can bring a lot of purity to the characters, and my first choice absolutely was Abhishek Bachchan because I have always felt that he has got a lot of purity in him that can help the character of Surya Sen,” said Gowariker.

“I have been admiring his work since his first film. I have liked his performance in every film and so he was the obvious choice. Deepika Padukone because she, too, brings the zeal to the character which is for Kalpana Dutta, as I would say,” he added.

”Do and Die” is based on the Chittagong uprising of 1930 against the British rule.

The uprising in Chittagong district (now in Bangladesh) began with an armory raid on April 18, 1930 in Bengal during the British rule.

“We have read in our textbooks that Chittagong uprising was a big event that had happened but we did not know much about it. The book of Manini Chatterjee is an account of the uprising that had happened. By reading the book, I realized how vast and big the revolt was. We do not know much about the revolt so I felt the urge to tell the audience about this story,” said Gowariker.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned down the lyrics of the film, which has been put to music by Sohail Sen.

The film is slated to release on December 3, 2010.
