Carrie Fisher, Best Known as Princess Leia in 'Star Wars,' Passes Away at 60

Devastating news out of Hollywood today as veteran entertainer Carrie Fisher has passed away due to a heart attack she suffered while on a plane traveling from London to Los Angeles. She was 60.

Fisher, the daughter of Hollywood legends Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, is most known for playing Princess (now General) Leia in the Star Wars movies, and reports indicate she was on a book tour when she passed. Fisher is currently set to star in the next Star Wars movie, Episode VIII, due out in December of 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Billie Lourd, who also has a small role in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as its upcoming sequel.

In addition to Star Wars, Fisher starred in films like The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally, and though many forever associated her with her iconic Star Wars character, Fisher was also wildly funny and an accomplished author, penning a number of books that explored her history with mental illness and addiction. One of her books, Postcards from the Edge, was adapted by Fisher herself into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine.

More recently Fisher has kept busy returning to that galaxy far, far away, reprising the role of Leia to much fanfare in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while promoting the film alongside her faithful canine companion, Gary. Fisher’s latest book, The Princess Diarist, is on shelves now. It is not currently known how big her role is in Episode VIII, nor if plans were in the works to also have Leia featured in the subsequent Episode IX, due in 2019.

She will be remembered for her unforgettable big-screen presence and incredible sense of humor. Fisher taught us that life may be forever bumpy, but if you find the humor in it all it’s a much smoother ride. She will be greatly missed by millions of fans worldwide.
