In case the trailers and posters filled with images of skyscrapers bending in half and portals to other dimensions didn’t make it obvious enough, Doctor Strange, Marvel’s next superhero movie, is going to get a little funky. That’s kind of Doctor Strange’s whole thing, after all. An experimental drug didn’t give him Captain America’s super strength. He’s not a billionaire scientist who can build any robotic suit he desires. He’s not a demigod from another planet. Doctor Strange is a sorcerer.
Or, rather, we expect Doctor Strange will become a sorcerer by the end of his debut movie. Until then we expect a lot of trial and error on his part as he tries to master ancient mystical arts that give him access to realities we mere mortals will never perceive. One of those mystical arts happens to be an ability to manipulate time, as is cleverly shown in this rather unique TV spot for Scott Derrickson’s film. It’s one of the shortest bits of marketing so far but it’s perhaps the coolest teaser Marvel has ever put out.
