Emily VanCamp — perhaps best remembered by former WB fans as “The Chick from Everwood” — has confirmed her exit from ABC’s Sunday night drama, Brothers & Sisters.

VanCamp announced this week that she is set to leave the series at the start of the upcoming season, which debuts this fall. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, VanCamp assures fans that her exit is a career decision driven by her fear that her character, Rebecca, has “run her course” on the program.

“I feel like Rebecca has run her course,” says Emily, who will appear in two episodes of B&S next season. “The deal I was offered this year was for two more years, and I felt like since renegotiations were happening, maybe it would be the right time to move on.”

VanCamp contends that she is eager to march into the next phase of her career: “I’ve been doing this for a very long time, and other opportunities have presented themselves that I haven’t been able to do. I’ve had such an amazing four years on the show and I felt like maybe it was time. It was a big risk, but I’m really excited about it.”

However, GiveMeMyRemote.com cites well-placed informants who blame budgetry troubles for Emily’s pink slip. Even with former series regular Rob Lowe throwing up the deuces and bidding farewell to Bros. last season, cash-strapped ABC is still having trouble footing production costs and ponying up salaries for the show’s sizable cast, which features: Dave Annable, Sally Field, Calista Flockhart, Balthazar Getty, and Rachel Griffiths.
