Even Nanny McPhee isn’t immune to a bout with “The Blues.”
A “mildly depressed” Emma Thompson is taking a year-long hiatus from Tinseltown — hot on the heels of landing one of the biggest accolades of her career.
On Friday, the British star was enshrined on the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in front of an English-themed pub on the Hollywood Boulevard. The ceremony which was held outside the Pig ‘n Whistle Pub witnessed the celebrated actress and screenwriter receive the 2,416th on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in presence of some of her co-stars as well as an enthusiastic crowd — which had gathered to catch a glimpse of the moment of glory of the Love Actually star.
It’s the last we’ll see of Emma for a while. Thompson is taking a break from Hollywood in 2011 to spend more time with her family.
The Oscar winner is mom to daughter Gaia and adopted son Tindyebwa with her actor husband Greg Wise and she admits she’s been eager to temporarily step away from the spotlight for some much-needed “Me Time.”
Emma’s also waged a longtime battle with “mild depression,” which has contributed to her decision to take an extended vacation.
“I suffer from occasional mild depression, which I think is a very common thing… and it’s a very much hidden thing people don’t talk about. I think it should be discussed,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I find the job I do emotionally very demanding,” Thompson says.
“Next year, I’m going to take a sabbatical. I’m not going to fund raise or perform or travel, except in pursuit of new vistas with my family. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long, long time, but it’s been like putting the brakes on a large ship because there is so much going on.”
