When it comes to private Hollywood couples, nobody is more hush-hush than Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling.
You won’t see them posting PDA-filled pictures on Instagram. They won’t be hitting every red carpet possible. And when they speak out for an interview, it’s for a very special occasion.
To top it all off, the couple welcomed a baby girl back in April after hardly ever being captured by photographers in the months leading up to the delivery.
Almost four months after the couple welcomed their second child, fans still don’t know much about baby Amada. But slowly but surely, we’re being reminded that these two are just enjoying family time away from the public eye.
“We’re constantly playing Cuban music. I speak to them in Spanish, and my mom speaks to Esmeralda in Spanish. Well, now she speaks to both of them in Spanish,” Eva recently shared with Latina‘s September issue. “Any time I have an opportunity to introduce her or them—I have to say ‘them’ now, though my newborn just sleeps all the time—to my culture, whether it’s through music, or through food, I do. That is a main priority, for sure.”

As to how Ryan and Eva settled on Amada Lee Gosling for their child’s name, it all came down to the power of family.
“My grandmother’s name is Amada, and Esmeralda Amada is the name of our oldest. We had a few names picked out for our new baby, and when she was born, we didn’t feel like those names were her. We came up with a few more, even that morning, and tried them out. We were like, ‘What about Viviana?’ But we just kept going back to Amada,” she explained to the publication. “We went with Amada because it was something we kept going back to. And it was an emotional time with the passing of my brother. We thought how beautiful to go with what made us emotional and with what felt like her. When we looked at her, we thought, ‘Aww, Amadita.'”
Baby Amada was born 12 days after Eva’s brother passed away. In fact, the actress gave birth the same week she paid her respects at a funeral. While she admits the death was “beyond heartbreaking,” the birth of a new child also provided some positivity during a difficult time.
When it comes to the man of the house, Ryan isn’t the least bit bothered that the girl-to-boy ratio is now 3-to-1. In fact, he embraces it day after day.
“It’s heaven. It’s like walking through a field of flowers every day. I live with angels,” he gushed to Good Morning America‘s Amy Robach before making a joke towards his The Nice Guys co-star. “It’s a ray of sunshine in a dark time, because with Russell Crowe, really, it’s sad. It’s sad that we’ve turned out this way.”
But as any parent knows, having two kids under two can also have its shares of struggles—hello sleepless nights and sounds of a few tears. But all in all, Eva told Latina magazine that it’s “a really, really special time.”
In regards to Ryan, he’s simply grateful that he has Eva by his side for all the joys of parenthood.
“I know that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with,” he once shared with Hello! Canada. “There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”
