Introducing new characters to a serialized show like “The Flash” can be a tough thing to do, especially when the main cast has such strong actors with truly amazing chemistry. Too often, the villain-of-the-week Barry (Grant Gustin) faces off against is a flash and fizzle character we just can’t bring ourselves to care much about.
Gypsy (Jessica Camacho), however, does not fall into that category.
In the DC Universe, Gypsy is a relatively minor character, so we weren’t anticipating much from her visit to Earth-1 to take on Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and H.R. (Tom Cavanagh). Maybe that’s why we were so pleasantly surprised by how much we adored her, and how naturally she fit into the world of “The Flash.”

As a fellow viber and inter-dimensional traveler, Gypsy provided a fun and easy way to bop between worlds without making it a huge crossover event. Exhibit A: The pitch-perfect portal fight scene that somehow made its way to James’ (Mehcad Brooks) office at Catco without needing to involve any major “Supergirl” characters.
Cisco’s power already provides the show’s universe with this possibility, but it’s always such a big deal when he decides to use it. Traveling to another world typically requires quite a bit of pomp and circumstance on “The Flash,” since it’s always followed by something crazy like a four-part crossover. Gypsy’s devil may care attitude about traveling the multiverse makes her the perfect reminder that all these worlds co-exist at the same time — even when Barry isn’t making an epic visit to Earth-42.
She also has some pretty amazing chemistry with Cisco, who is long overdue for a serious love interest.
In the two and a half years “The Flash” has been on the air, Cisco has only had a couple of lukewarm romances that always turned out poorly for him. Snart’s (Wentworth Miller) evil sister Lisa (Peyton List) was an intriguing option, but not a viable one, once the actress moved to a CW show of her own, “Frequency.” Kendra Saunders was another almost-lover for Cisco, but she disappeared onto “Legends of Tomorrow” just when things were getting good.
Gypsy being from another Earth puts a bit of a wrench in the works of this particular romance, but that doesn’t take away from the awesome vibe we’re getting (pardon the pun) off her flirtation with Cisco. We might finally have a solid love interest for our favorite sidekick, and all that’s standing in the way is a law punishable by death against inter-dimensional travel. Easy peasy!

Even if we can’t get Gypsy back on “The Flash,” we’d still love to see her on any of the other CW superhero shows. “Supergirl” is always an option, since Gypsy can vibe there on her own, but she’d also fit pretty nicely into the darker world of “Arrow.” A bounty hunter will always have reasons to randomly show up in Starling or National City. The sky is really the limit for this character.
“I feel like she’d just kind of fit in right there, in all of those worlds,” Camacho says of Gypsy’s potential future in the Arrow-verse. “It would be amazing to see her pop up somewhere. That’s the cool thing about working in this world, is that you can pop up anywhere and it kind of makes sense. I really hope, fingers crossed, that that’s in Gypsy’s future.”
We’ll keep our fingers crossed too, that The CW recognizes what a gem they have in Gypsy — and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any hints she might be back.
“The Flash” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
