Fictionalizing his childhood’s ascent to stardom, and subsequent grownup crash-landing into rehab and restoration, Har’el casts Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges as Otis Lort, navigating completely different levels in a frenetic profession. LaBeouf takes on the daring and therapeutic problem of taking part in a model of his personal father, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon. Artist and musician FKA twigs makes her feature-film debut, taking part in neighbor and kindred spirit to the youthful Otis of their garden-court motel residence. Har’el’s function narrative debut is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between filmmaker and topic, exploring artwork as medication and creativeness as hope.
