‘Incorporated’ plays a cut-throat game of survival of the fittest

In its second episode, Syfy’s “Incorporated” steps it up a notch, showing us just how dire things can be for both those living in the Green and the Red Zones.

Wednesday’s (Dec. 7) episode, “Downsizing,” explores the strict protocols Spiga higherups must follow. And why shouldn’t they be sticklers about such high-stakes rules? In a world controlled by corporations, competition is fierce and the desire for company secrets has led to terrorist attacks throughout the world. With that in mind, Spiga’s own security measures can be seen as a blessing — for those abiding by the corporation’s rules — and a curse — for those seeking to undermine them.

At the center of this story is Ben (Sean Teale) and as we saw last week, he planted top secret intel on his boss, to further his upward journey in the company. A move like might seem tenacious to his peers — if they even knew half of it — but the real goal centers around his hunt for a girl named Elena (Denyse Tontz) who he knew during his secret Red Zone days, back when he went by the name Aaron.

Now that Chad (David Hewlett) has been investigated (and tortured) for his alleged crime, CEO Elizabeth (Julia Ormond) moved quickly onto her search for his replacement, taking the man’s wife and kid into custody. Elizabeth’s daughter Laura (Allison Miller) used her connections the best she could to protect them, presenting a deal to the CEO that would free Chad’s family: A shot at spending time with her grandchild. Even so, the best Laura comes away with is an offer for Chad’s son to go and live with a Green Zone family.

It’s a harsh reality to swallow but this, friends, is the world in 2074 and survival of the fittest is key. And while that’s all well and good, something tells us Aaron is searching for Elena for one simple reason: Love.

His mission has unveiled some interesting partners along the way.

There’s Hendrick (Damon Herriman), a mysterious man from his childhood who also infiltrated the corporation with the same goal in mind. And let’s not forget Theo (Eddie Ramos), Elena’s younger brotherL His mission to avenge his sister’s induction into the Green Zone sex trade has led him into danger.

Last week, he displayed his impressive battle skills to Terrence Hunt (Ian Tracey), a Red Zone crime boss looking to profit off of his abilities in the octagon. And while Theo does his best to impress, he quickly finds out that — much like his first ever steak — the world of professional fighting can be deceptive and bloody.

The pieces seem to be falling into place to help push Aaron (we mean Ben) forward on his plan to find Elena. But threats lie around every corner, and the price for deception within the company is steep.

A Spiga termination doesn’t simply mean leaving one’s job: As we saw firsthand, once Chad got his walking papers he was dumped in a random Red Zone without any knowledge of why he was there or who he was. Having your mind wiped is a small price to pay for stealing highly coveted intel… Even if you’re not really the guilty party in question.

“Incorporated” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.
