On Saturday, at the Popular Lecture Series organized by the Indian Institute of Science Alumni Association Science Forum, SRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan revealed that ISRO is all set to discover low cost access to Space for which several new measures are being taken.
He announced that by the end of 2012, space would be accessible at low cost with the help of ISRO’s GSLV Mk3 using indigenous cryogenic technology. He informed that currently the cost per kg is $20,000 while with GSLV Mk3; this cost is expected to get reduced by half.
Dr. Radhakrishnan added, “We have a human space flight program and ISRO is going to put two Indians in an orbit around the Earth.”
He also unveiled, “ISRO is going to launch the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV-D3) from the launch pad in Sriharikota in April. The preparations are on final stage and the final reviews are also taking place. It could be any day from April 15, which is the first available opportunity.”
Mr. Radhakrishnan believes that the development of complex cryogenic rocket technology in India is a great effort that has replaced the technology from Russia to be used in rockets.
