Jennifer Lopez has been named the first spokeswoman for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the organization said Monday.
On Tuesday, the Bronx-born actress/pop singer joined Oscar winner Denzel Washington, who has enjoyed an 18 year partnership with the organization, and clubs President Roxanne Spillett at a press conference at the Nokia Plaza in Los Angeles toting the merits of the Boys & Girls Club. Jennifer’s new role as B&G spokesgal will see the beauty lending her famous voice and face to a series of print and commercial ads promoting the clubs’ locations across the country.
“By inviting fellow-alumnus Jennifer Lopez to join him as national spokesperson, Denzel is expanding this key role to two people for the first time in the organization’s 104-year history,” the group said in a news release this week. “The announcement commemorates the 20th anniversary of the organization’s name change from ‘Boys Clubs’ to ‘Boys & Girls Clubs of America,’ marking the expansion of the mission to reach all young people in need.”
It’s already been a big week for JLo, on Monday, the new American Idol judge was tipped as one of Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010. Lopez will be interviewed by the broadcast legend when the special debuts next Wednesday night @ 10 PM on ABC.
