Casting a big role – the kind they name movies after – is not an easy thing. A studio will go through hundreds and thousands of actors to find the perfect fit. The audition process goes on for months, until eventually a studio has a short list of final contenders. If you’ll recall, John Krasinski was on such a shortlist for the role of Captain America. It even got so far as an on-set audition with the suit and everything.
And then those months and months of hard work were undone by a chance encounter with Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
Krasinski told the funny story recently on Conan. Watch it in full below, but it basically boils down to this: Chris Hemsworth makes everyone feel inadequate, even John Krasinski.

Krasinski doesn’t explicitly say if he walked away from the job or if he started to doubt his commitment to the role (these actors have to fundamentally change their lifestyles to look like superheroes), but either way he pins that as the moment he and Captain America parted ways.
Funnily enough, it’s not too different from a story Jude Law recently told on another late night talk show about why he turned down playing Superman. Apparently as soon as you see yourself in one of these suits, you know whether or not you want to be a superhero.
