Prince isn’t the only music legend chanting “Down With The Web!” Rock star John Mellencamp believes the Internet is one of the most destructive forces ever created.

Speaking at a public seminar at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles Tuesday night, Mellencamp told fans: “I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb. It’s destroyed the music business. It’s going to destroy the movie business.”

Ironically, earlier this year, the “Jack and Diane” and “Pink Houses” singer backed up his son when the teen launced a Facebook campaign to convince his chain-smoking dad to give up the cigarettes that he loves so much. While John acknowledges that the World Wide Web can be an invaluable tool when it comes to networking and commuication, the pseudo-politico, 58, believes the Web makes it easier for “some smart people, the China-Russians or something” to take over utilities or other critical services by hacking into our computer systems.

We’ll just let that marinate for a moment.

Mellencamp has always been an outspoken proponent for things that he believes in. He lobbied for Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, and worked with country music icon Willie Nelson on the Farm Aid concert series.
