Kelsey Grammer is biting back a tabloid reports accusing him of not calling his children on Father’s Day and “smooching a dirty blonde” in the months leading up to his split from estranged wife Camille Grammer, a former Playboy centerfold and national posterchild in the fight against irritable bowel syndrome.

“When faced with malicious and unfounded rumors, I will defend myself. Some comments have surfaced about Father’s Day. I don’t know who is generating them but the truth is that I did call my kids that evening,” the actor said in a statement posted on his KelseyLive.com blog.

Camille, who wed Kelsey in Aug. 1997, filed divorce papers in Los Angeles last Wednesday. The relationship has reportedly been strained for some time — particularly in the weeks since the former Fraiser star ventured to New York City for a gig on Broadway. However, Kelsey is especially livid amid rumors that he was seen out with an unknown female in the Big Apple last spring. A furious Grammer fumes that the “date” was actually dinner with his 26-year-old daughter

He writes: “A rumor from the ‘bottom of the barrel set’ has surfaced about me and a dirty blond(e) at a restaurant in NYC. It was April and we were seen smooching at Five Napkin Burger. The dirty blond(e) was my daughter Spencer, who was visiting that entire month. I do take issue with the characterisation that we were smooching but surely if that were the case then even I admit it might be newsworthy in some fashion.”

Kelsey further insists that he is determined to keep his relationship with Camille amicable so they can move on with their lives and raise their children, daughter Mason Olivia, eight, and son Jude Gordon, five, in a civil manner.

Camille is seeking spousal support and physical custody of Mason and Jude, with visitation granted to Kelsey.
