Although last week was all about the over-the-top looks in Cannes, the red carpets in the States were business as usual — literally. Business attire has dominated Hollywood recently, but it’s not your mom’s navy pantsuit we’re talking about: it’s the polished combo of a blazer and dress shorts.
Julianne Hough stopped by the American Idol finale to support beau Ryan Seacrest and wore a black-and-white take on the trend: high-waisted shorts, a lace top, a waist-defining belt and a crisp white L’Agence blazer.
Also sporting a white blazer was Olivia Palermo, who chose one for a jewelry store opening in N.Y.C. Her oversized topper — accented with black lapels and big buttons — was paired with black shorts, a blue-and-white striped shirt, a Fabergé diamond statement necklace and satin jewel-toed Manolo Blahniks.
Opting for tan leather shorts and a fitted black blazer, Tiffani Thiessen put her own fashionable touches — including a polka-dot button-up and pendant — on the stylish-yet-put-together combo at an event in Los Angeles.
What do you think? Are shorts and blazers dressy enough for the red carpet or better fit for a more casual affair? Would you try the trend?
