Unlike Ghostbusters, the all-female version of Ocean’s Eleven will be directly connected to its predecessors. Like this year’s Ghostbusters reboot, though, the O11 spinoff Ocean’s Eight will feature cameos from the original movie’s stars. Unlike Ghostbusters, those stars will presumably be reprising their same roles.
George Clooney is expected to make at least a brief appearance as Danny Ocean, whose sister, played by Sandra Bullock, is apparently leading this ensemble. Now Matt Damon has also confirmed he’ll be showing up. On the red carpet for the premiere of Manchester By the Sea, which he produced, Damon told Entertainment Tonight, “I think I’m doing a little bit in the movie.”
He doesn’t seem to know himself what that entails, however. He says he hasn’t read the script but shows excitement for the cast, which also includes Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Awkwafina and Dakota Fanning. Which ones are members of the titular eight is still unknown.
If we do get to see even momentarily glimpses of Clooney and Damon’s Linus Caldwell, we can bet Brad Pitt will also appear, likely eating something. As for Casey Affleck, the star of Manchester By the Sea and another member of the original 11, there is surprisingly no mention. We’ll have to see who all is squeezed in when Ocean’s Eight hits theaters on June 8, 2018.
