Movie News: First ‘Inherent Vice’ Photo; Elijah Wood in Thrilling ‘Open Windows’ Trailer
Inherent Vice: The first official photo from Paul Thomas Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice reveals Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin in appropriate period costume — and hair. Set in the 1970s, the story follows a P.I. (Phoenix) and a Los Angeles police detective (Brolin) as they investigate the disappearance of a wealthy man. Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, and Owen Wilson also star; the movie opens on December 12. [EW.com]
Mission: Impossible 5: Ving Rhames will apparently return in the next installment of Mission: Impossible. Director Christopher McQuarrie shared the following message via social media: “Welcome back, Mr. Rhames.” McQuarrie also named-checked Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner, who all starred in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, in which Rhames had a cameo role. Mission: Impossible 5 is due for release on December 25, 2015. [Collider]
Star Wars: If you felt a disturbance in the Force this past Saturday, it may be because a fan site reported that the original, unaltered cuts of the first three Star Wars movies (later known as Episodes IV, V, and VI) would be released by Disney on Blu-ray, perhaps before Episode VII hits theaters in December 2015. One hitch, according to another site: Fox, not Disney, owns distribution rights until 2020 to all six episodes released so far. [Comic Book Movie/Badass Digest]
Open Windows Trailer: In the unique new thriller Open Windows, Elijah Wood stars as a super fan of a sexy movie star (Sasha Grey) who is unexpectedly drawn into a murder mystery. Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) directed; the movie opens in theaters on September 29. [MovieClips]
