Movie News: See Brie Larson Researching 'Captain Marvel'; Plus Updates on 'Gambi…

Captain Marvel: Brie Larson, apparently dressed up as Captain Marvel, shared a photo of herself reading Captain Marvel Volume 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More, a collected edition of Marvel’s comic book series published in 2014. Larson will star in Captain Marvel as the titular character, a pilot who gains superhero powers. Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are currently writing the screenplay. The movie is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019. [Twitter via CNet]

 

Gambit: Recently, producer Simon Kinberg talked about upcoming X-Men spin-off projects. He says that Deadpool 2 will comment on “superhero movies. The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we’ll play around with.” As to delays on Gambit, which will star Channing Tatum (above), Kinberg says: “When you have these movies that need a very special and unique tone, it takes a little while to find that tone … we want to make sure that we capture that voice on the page. … I think we’re really close right now.” [SlashFilm]

 

Moana TV Spot: A new television spot for Disney’s animated Moana features the voices of Auli’i Cravalho as the young title character and Dwayne Johnson as a god as they set off on an adventure across the sea. The movie will open on November 23. [Movieclips]
