MTV is de-Italianizing Jersey Shore

The Italian-American group that has spent the past eight months publicly blasting the trashy MTV reality soap says the network has agreed to limit Italian references when Jersey Shore returns for a second season on July 29.

Andre DiMino — president of UNICO National, the largest Italian American service organization in the United States — says he has met with chiefs at MTV’s parent company, Viacom Inc., and claims they’ve promised to cut down on references to Italians, shots of the Italian flag, and use of the term “guido” — a word many Italian-Americans call a ethnic slur, The Associated Press said Friday.
