Movies, curses, and censors — Oh My!

Same-sex liplocks, celebrity danceoffs, and a cascade of swears dominated MTV’s 19th Annual Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Censors clocked over 100 profane words used during the broadcast — some planned, most not — which has prompted MTV to issue a statement apologizing to viewers for the weekend raunchfest.

“The MTV Movie Awards is a live televised event known for irreverent comedy and a party atmosphere where our guests speak more freely than they otherwise might. While we aired the live broadcast with a delay, we were unable to mute every word that some might find objectionable. All of these words will be muted in subsequent airings. We sincerely apologize to those in our audience who were offended by any objectionable words that might have slipped by for the live airing,” read the presser.

A network snoop tells NYC’s Daily News: “None of that was planned. The only person who was supposed to say the F-word was Tom Cruise. But it was the domino effect. A lot of people got caught up in the moment and took the lead of those who said ‘f—-’ onstage before them – even though it wasn’t in their script.”
