Four out of the final 5 Pixar films have been sequels. This can be extra alarming if two of them — Incredibles 2 and, based mostly on early opinions, Toy Story 4 — weren’t so rattling good. Still, I’d relatively Pixar attempt to fail with one thing new like The Good Dinosaur (or, higher but, attempt to succeed!) than churn out one other Cars. But there’s excellent news on the horizon. First, Forky exists. Also, the following two Pixar movies after Toy Story 4 are based mostly on authentic concepts.
We already knew about Onward (March 6, 2020), the Tom Holland- and Chris Pratt-starring fantasy-adventure set in a world with “elves, trolls, mermaids, centaurs, fauns, satyrs, gnomes, sprites, goblins, and other mythical creatures.” But on Wednesday, Disney introduced that the “untitled Pixar movie” slot on June 19, 2020, will likely be stuffed by Soul. The tagline for the movie, which takes place in New York and the cosmic realms: “Ever surprise the place your ardour, your desires, and your pursuits come from? What is it that makes you… you?”
Pete Docter, who received Academy Awards for Up and Inside Out, is directing the story… Oscar nominee Dana Murray (Lou) is producing. A voice solid has not but been introduced. Soul will likely be opening in opposition to Universal’s untitled Pete Davidson comedy, directed by Judd Apatow. (Via)
Disney and Pixar have additionally secured launch dates for June 18, 2021, March 18, 2022, and June 17, 2022, though it’s unknown in the intervening time what films will fill them. Probably three Forky movies.
