Ricky Martin, who confirmed Hollywood’s worst kept secret when he revealed he was gay earlier this year, says he won’t get married to his partner until same-sex weddings are legal on his home island of Puerto Rico.

“I am in a relationship right now but we aren’t talking about marriage yet. We’ve been together for three years but it’s still a nurturing process. That’s where my relationship is at,” says Martin, a father-of-twins who released his memoir in October.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the option of marriage in our country. We could go to Britain or Spain or Argentina and do something beautifully symbolic, but that’s not what I want. I want to have the rights of anybody else in my home country. I don’t want to be a second-class citizen. I’d want to do it on the island where I was born and where I will die.”

Martin admits he is attracted to “smart, witty” men who have self-confidence and are not arrogant.

”I love witty. I love mental strength. With all the stuff I come with, you have to be someone who is sure of himself. That turns me on,” he says . “Somebody who is very sure of himself and is not arrogant and has a career. Somebody who is very open-minded about things. That’s what I love. Adventurous is the word.”
