Sofia Richie has a lot on her plate.

Between modeling, music and having some personal time to herself, Sofia has a very packed schedule. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a little time for fun. Lionel Richie‘s daughter recently took off to Mexico with Justin Bieber to celebrate her 18th birthday, a romantic trip she tells Billboard was partially to celebrate her “freedom!”

Sofia and Justin were spotted packing on the PDA during their trip, but when asked about him she answers with a coy response. “We have a special relationship,” she shares. “Justin is very easy to talk to, and that’s hard to find with people in Los Angeles.”

The 18-year-old model, who has already appeared in Vanity Fair, Elle and Vogue China, loves her current career path but she explains that her dad sometimes tries to slyly steer her toward music by inviting over famous musicians, including brother-in-law Joel Madden.

“One night he intercoms me, like, ‘Come have dinner in the studio,'” she recalls. “So I go down and it’s my dad and Pharrell Williams. I’m like, ‘I can’t just sit here and casually have a dinner with you two! I’m so sorry, I’ve got to go back upstairs.'”

She has been playing piano since she was seven and singing since she was five, but after a while it became too much for her to handle. “It was the best I could have asked for, but there was too much pressure,” she tells Billboard. “Everyone had their own idea of what my music should sound like, and I just wanted to be an individual. I stepped back and said, ‘I need to re-evaluate this.'”

Now that she’s a legal adult, Sofia plans on moving out of her dad’s house to having a new beginning. “It’s time to go!” she jokes.

She doesn’t say where she’s going, but we have a feeling it won’t be too far.
