Sorry Fans, Hugh Jackman Seems Iffy on That 'Deadpool/Wolverine' Movie

Will Hugh Jackman come out of Wolverine retirement for one more movie opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool?

“I’m hesitating,” Jackman told Variety, “because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.”

Whether or not we ever see a Deadpool/Wolverine movie may depend entirely on Jackman. In that same Variety cover story on Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, he fully admits — as he has before — that he wants to square off against Wolverine in a film. However, should that not happen, it’s not like they’re running out of material.

“I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool,” he says. “We have outlines and stories for a number of different films.”

Of course there’s also the chance Deadpool and Wolverine have already filmed a confrontation for the upcoming Logan, due this March and said to be Jackman’s last time playing the character. A recent report from The Wrap claims Ryan Reynolds has filmed a scene as Deadpool for the upcoming Wolverine movie, Logan. While not certain what the scene is or how it plays into the film, they do claim Deadpool 2 director David Leitch shot the scene in question and that it will most likely come as part of some post-credits stinger.

Soon after that news was published, Reynolds came out and said it wasn’t true. Though keep in mind actors and filmmakers tend to deny big appearances like that in order to maintain a level of surprise for fans.

The first time Deadpool appeared in a Wolverine movie, it didn’t do either character justice. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds portrayed a version of Deadpool that was almost unrecognizable from the comics; one that looked wildly different and came without his trademark wit and charisma.

That all changed when Reynolds got the chance to do it all again, reprising the character — this time as a version much closer to the one from the comics — subsequently churning out one of 2016’s biggest hits and successfully launching what will no doubt become a new era of R-rated superhero movies.

Will this newfound success, much of it due to the riskier rating both Deadpool and Logan are exploiting in rich, creative ways, help convince Jackman to strap on the claws for one more go-round?
