Reunited and it feels like public assistance and government cheese….Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag may be back together again, but that hardly means all is well in the Land of Silicone and Publicity Stunts.

In fact, The Terrible Twosome Commonly Known as Speidi say they’re broke, homeless, and depending on the charity of Pratt’s parents to survive. Yep — the fortune is gone. All $10 million of it. And Spencer’s chalking his fall from grace as the reality villain you love to loathe up to two main contributing factors: Poor spending habirs and the vodka-soaked cast of Jersey Shore.

(Insert Stink Eye and Eye-Rolling here…)

So where did all the money go?

Spencer and Heidi say they squandered the millions they earned on six seasons of The Hills on rent for their $35,000 a-month Malibu pad, Heidi’s critically panned music career — which costs the pair $3 million, the obsessive blonde’s multiple cosmetic operations and aftercare, cars, private jets, and Spencer’s fascination with healing crystals.

Oh — did we forget to mention that they also owe $2 million in federal income taxes?

“We were immature, worrying too much about the famous part instead of the actual business part,” Spencer reveals in this week’s issue of Life & Style Weekly. “In hindsight, we shouldn’t have spent any of our money. We should have been low-key and saved,” he explains.

“We thought ‘The Hills’ was going to be like [the original] ’90210′ and we’d have another five to 10 years. The ratings were consistent. But we never saw ‘Jersey Shore’ coming. Before, TV audiences were fine with seeing us all argue, but now they want you to punch one another in the face and hook up with three different people. Our cast was a bit boring and snoozeworthy in comparison. No wonder we got cancelled.”

No wonder, indeed.

With The Hills now resting in peace in the Television Graveyard in the sky, Pratt says he’s “looked into unemployment checks,” while Heidi considered stripping off Playboy in a last ditch effort to ward off bankruptcy.

For now, Spencer’s parents have provided the young couple with a guesthouse to share and a weekly food allowance.

“Spencer’s parents go to the grocery store for us once a week,” Montag says, “and that’s all we get.”

Ironically, Heidi’s estranged mother has experience financial problems of her own in recent months. Darlene Egelcliff has been forced to seek employment as a housekeeper after her Colorado restaurant folded earlier this year.
