From the very first episode of “Teen Wolf,” the relationship between Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and Lydia (Holland Roden) has always seemed inevitable. The dorky guy and the popular girl always manage to get together in ’80s movies, after all — so why not on MTV’s hit werewolf show?
Sadly for fans of “Stydia,” that relationship has stayed in the friend zone for the most part, if you don’t count that one panic-attack-induced kiss. At one point or another, most of us wondered whether or not these two would ever manage to get their act together.

Now, the last season of “Teen Wolf” is upon us, and it’s looking like Stiles and Lydia might finally get their shot.
According to Jeff Davis, the decision to finally explore that potential romance was spurred on by the news that they were entering their final season on the air.
“It was partly that we knew that these would be the last 20 episodes,” Davis says. “It’s the final season, and a lot of it is thinking, ‘Okay, what are the things we haven’t done? What are the relationships that haven’t really gone there yet? Should we go there? Should we go for it?”
We know you all are probably screaming at your screens, “YES! GO THERE! GO NOW!”
Nonetheless, we’re relieved to hear that Davis and his talented team of writers reviewed the pros and cons of pairing Stiles and Lydia together before barreling full-speed ahead. Romance for romance’s sake is never a good idea, even in cases where fans are quite literally tweeting about it day and night.
It also feels very fitting that “Teen Wolf” has decided to keep this last trick up its sleeve instead of blowing through the storyline at an earlier date. Final seasons are a time to pull out all the stops, and it seems like Davis has been saving the Stydia relationship for the grand finale.

“When we’re in seasons where we don’t know whether the show is going to end, we usually think, ‘Let’s hold off on that,’” Davis says. “Now, all bets are off, and if we love this storyline, let’s go for it. It’s a little bit of throwing caution to the wind.”
Before we can throw any caution to any wind though, we’ve got to get Stiles back from the Ghost Riders.
As for when Season 6 will get another dose of Stiles, Davis is obviously keeping that a closely-guarded secret. “Wait and see,” Davis says. “Sooner than you think.”
“Teen Wolf” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
