The newest trailer for “The 100” Season 4 might have a bit of cheery background music to put you at ease, but make no mistake, things are about to get intense on the ground.
With the nuclear apocalypse — yes, another one — on the way, Clarke (Eliza Taylor) only has a few short months to figure out a way to save not only Arkadia, but the Grounders of the 12 clans from the deathly radiation heading their way. Solutions are few and far between, but it would be nice to see Clarke save thousands of people instead of killing them. No judgment, but her track record is sketchy so far.
That being said, let’s count down who’s happy, who’s sad, and who’s dying according to this new trailer.

Happy
Jasper: To start with the good news, we can report that there are a few high-spirited moments coming our way in Season 4. Jasper (Devon Bostick) appears to have a new lease on life this year, and he’s doing his best to bring out the most rare and elusive thing on “The 100”: A smile.
Roan: He’d never give us an actual smile, but we’re willing to bet Roan (Zach McGowan) is happy to be alive after being shot in the chest point blank last year. One can assume this makes him King of Azgeda too, which is what he’s wanted all along. Nuclear apocalypse aside, life looks pretty good for Roan.
Murphy: Now that he’s reunited with his lady love, Murphy seems to be living it up. We’re sure there will be bumps in the road ahead for this couple eventually, but we’re content to just watch them bask in the joy of their own survival for a little while.
Sad
Monty: Poor Monty (Christopher Larkin) pretty much lost everything last year, and he’s not dealing with his devastating new reality in the upbeat way Jasper has adopted. Though he can now take comfort in his budding relationship with Harper, Monty looks decidedly unhappy in this latest look at the upcoming season.
Clarke: Being the only one who knows about the looming deadline of an entirely irradiated planet, Clarke is understandably not in a giggling mood. As “The 100’s” de facto leader, she’s too worried about saving thousands of lives to crack a smile.

Octavia: We wouldn’t necessarily characterize Octavia (Maria Avgeropoulos) as sad — more like bloodthirsty. Still, we all know this anger and violence is coming out of her grief over Lincoln’s (Ricky Whittle) murder. We hate to see our girl so closed off, but we’re also ridiculously excited to see her kick some serious butt this year.
Bellamy: Not to sound totally alarmed, but Bellamy’s agonized scream behind bars has us more than a little nervous. Besides torture, there are only a few people in the world he’d scream like that over, and they’re all people we WILL NOT be able to handle losing. Consider us on high alert.
Dying
Lots and lots of Grounders: Thankfully, none of our main characters seem to be in mortal peril just yet, unless you count the radiation slowly but surely making its way to kill them all. There are several Grounders, however, who get stabbed, burnt to a crisp, or have their throats slashed. That’s “The 100” for you!
“The 100” premieres Feb. 1st at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
