John Donovan (Jimmy Smits) has had a pretty rough day and things only get worse in Monday’s (March 20) episode of “24: Legacy.”
It was only a matter of time before John learned of his father’s predicament: Being tortured isn’t the best way to spend an afternoon. He may have sided with Henry (Gerald McRainey) in the end — cutting his father free before any further harm could be done — but we can’t help but have serious concerns about the man’s professional (and personal) life from here on out.
The last time we checked, Senator Donovan was still running for president. Obviously, his father is no longer on the campaign team, but Henry’s sinister ties to Jadalla Bin-Khalid (Raphael Acloque) won’t help anyone anytime soon. Further, if it ever gets out that his wife Rebecca (Miranda Otto) oversaw the whole interrogation, John’s career aspirations would be dunzo.

John isn’t too distracted with any political minutiae right now: With the sleeper cell threat still active, the well-being of the country is an absolute priority. But his father’s connections with the men who took out Eric Carter’s (Corey Hawkins) team will only prove harmful in the long-run.
One way or another, the energy in the Donovan household is about to become quite frigid. Rebecca’s role in all this is sure to put the future of their marriage in question. Not only was John kept in the dark on his father’s torture session, but former CTU Director Ingram here hired Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) — former CTU Director/ex-boyfriend/traitor/convict/you name it — to conduct the whole session. Talk about one heck of a complicated love triangle…
The situation with Rebecca may go on the back burner right now. But can John talk some sense into his dad? If he can handle multiple injections at the hand of Almeida, it’s probably safe to say he won’t be giving up the goods anytime soon. And that just leaves John’s uncle to provide the answers he seeks. When will the good senator realize this whole mess is just one big family affair?
John Donovan has had a rough day, to be sure. Unfortunately for the presidential candidate, it is far from over.
