'The Wall' Trailer: John Cena Is at the Mercy of a Sniper for 'Edge of Tomorrow&…

Doug Liman is always in talks for big projects, like Gambit and Splinter Cell, but he’s in the news for more movies he doesn’t do than those he does. One that didn’t get a lot of attention when first announced, because it’s not based on a comic book or video game, is a smaller, three-character feature called The Wall. Today, we get to see what it looks like with a brand new trailer.

The war movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena as a couple of American sharpshooters in Iraq. One day, Cena’s character goes down at the hands of an unseen sniper, and Taylor-Johnson has to take cover and hide from the enemy’s scope. As he tries to stay alive, unable to move away from a segment of wall, he begins radio communication with the cat to his mouse.

If this movie looks somewhat familiar, that’s because a lot of war movies have a brief version of its situation. We’ve seen intense moments in such classics as Full Metal Jacket and Saving Private Ryan involving unseen shooters, and now we apparently get to watch the idea extended to feature-length. That’s fine, as the suspense of the scenario can last for hours.

This little war drama should also tide us over until the next Liman collaboration with his Edge of Tomorrow star arrives six months later. The Wall hits theaters on March 10, 2017, and then the Tom Cruise-led American Made arrives in September. Following that, Liman’s got another sci-fi movie for 2018 called Chaos Walking, which stars Tom Holland Daisy Ridley.
