Scientists of the University of Quenseland have set up an underwater lab to study the impact of climatic changes on the coral reef. The experiments are one of a kind under the ocean. Purpose of the study is to know about the extent of the damages that the rising atmospheric carbon has been doing to the reef and the creatures living there.

The underwater lab will study the impact of climatic changes on the living corals on the Great Barrier Reef. More acidic conditions have been forecast for the oceans by the end of the century and the experiments are going to reveal the exact nature of the damages done so far.

A scientist of the underwater laboratory says, ‘‘something as complex and broad a feature as coral reefs is now sickening and dying. This is really giving us a warning sign that maybe the whole basis of our dependence on this planet, the biological and ecological services, will change.”
