Watch: Preview Awards Season with New Trailers for 'Lion, 'A United Kingdom' and…

With the summer dwindling down and the fall festivals approaching, it’s time to look at some globe-trotting prestige movies that could be Oscar contenders early next year. Check out trailers for Lion, A United Kingdom and Planetarium below.

Lion

First we head to India for the true story of Saroo Brierley (Dev Patel), who got lost as a boy and wound up adopted by an Australian couple (Nicole Kidman and David Wenham) and then returned to India as an adult to find his real family. Rooney Mara also co-stars in the adaptation of Brierley’s nonfiction bestseller A Long Way Home, which is the feature directorial debut of Garth Davis (Top of the Lake). After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, the movie will hit theaters on November 25.

A United Kingdom

Now we head to South Africa for another true story, this one about the controversial interracial marriage of the Bamangwato prince Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) to the white British woman Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike) in 1948. When he returned with her to claim his crown, he was instead exiled. Belle director Amma Asante is at the helm of another mixed-race nobility-focused period piece here, and it too is debuting at Toronto. But currently it has no U.S. release date.

Planetarium

Finally, we’re on a train to France. Paris to be precise. This one, starring Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp as sisters who can communicate with the dead, is not based on a true story. Instead, it’s from the mind of writers Robin Campillo (The Class) and Rebecca Zlotowski (Grand Central), who is also the director. Most of this international trailer is in French without subtitles, but you can still see it’s a gorgeously appealing drama. Planetarium premieres at the Venice Film Festival then heads to Toronto but also has no U.S. release yet.
