What We Bought This Weekend

Style News Now

How do PeopleStyleWatch.com editors spend their Saturdays and Sundays? Well, it should come as no surprise to you that our days off normally include one of the following activities: online shopping, in-store shopping, digging through vintage shops, bidding on eBay or attending a clothing swap. Starting today, we’ll be sharing our purchases (or in the case of swaps, free finds!) with you on the blog.

And we want you to get in on the weekly ritual! Whenever you nab something new — whether it’s a pair of shoes, jeans, jewelry, a dress for an upcoming wedding or anything else — Tweet us a picture of the item @StyleWatchMag and include #PSWshops. We’ll be showcasing some of our favorites and you might just see the latest addition to your closet on the site!

Senior Style Editor Zoë Ruderman: For Christmas, my boyfriend’s mom bought me underwear from Victoria’s Secret (that’s a story for another blog post) and since it wasn’t really my style, I returned it.

And I’ve been walking around with a gift card to Victoria’s Secret ever since. I finally spent it this weekend, not on lingerie, but on something from the site’s clothing section. (If you haven’t already checked it out, you must. They have some really chic stuff and the prices are reasonable.)

I picked out this $ 98 neon double-plunge dress, which I plan to wear nonstop on an upcoming vacation to Mexico. It’s jersey so it’s comfy enough to throw on over a bathing suit, but the cut is sexy enough for a night out. Perfect since I have to fit a week’s worth of stuff in a carry-on.

News Editor Alex Apatoff: Putting away my preppy clothes was the hardest thing about moving from the Chicago ‘burbs to all black, all-the-time N.Y.C. So whenever I’m on vacation somewhere sunny, I can’t resist treating myself to a little Lilly Pulitzer or Vera Bradley.

That’s why when I saw this sailboat-print Lilly Pulitzer bustier dress on the sale rack at Boca Grande’s The Palm on Park, I snapped it up in a minute for a friend’s rehearsal dinner in June. The boat print is sweet and girlie, but the bustier cut is flattering and sophisticated — it was totally irresistible.

This particular dress is sold out, but I found a few other looks (like this $ 198 seersucker number and this pretty teal lace dress, $ 228) with a similar sweetly sassy feel that I’m now dying to add to my closet. And with a blazer and wedges, I’m totally wearing the boat dress to work — I can only fake being a boring, monochromatic dresser for so long!
