Call It The Canadian Invasion. Ontario-born teen idol Justin Bieber swept the American Music Awards, which brought out the year’s best in music when it aired live from the Nokia Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday night.
Thanks to the power of online voting, the fresh-faced pop singer won statuettes for Favorite Pop Album, Breakthrough Artist, Favorite Male Pop Artist, and the coveted Artist of the Year trophy, beating out acts like Ke$ha and Eminem at the 38th annual ceremony. Justin’s hit album, My World 2.0, has sold almost 2 million copies in the United States since its release earlier this year and his public appearances turn into mob scenes.
“I’m from the smallest town in the world of, like, 30,000 people,” Bieber remarked of his unlikely rise to fame while accepting the Breakthrough prize. “I never thought this was possible.”
