Bryan Cranston will play the mayor of Los Angeles in Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages , the director announced this weekend on Twitter .

The “Breaking Bad” star will be joining Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Amy Adams, Diego Bonet, Russell Brand and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the adaptation of the musical.
The musical centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid ’80s rock anthems.
New Line/Warner Bros. will start filming this month for a June 1, 2012 release.
