PEOPLE Mag tattles are spilling the soup on the “emotional and physical issues” that sent Disney darling Demi Lovato into a treatment center for depression over the weekend.
The “Demi, you in danger, gurl!” lightbulb went off for Lovato after the singer/actress flipped into Full Bitch Mode and nearly got into a physical fight with one of the dancers on her tour. Family insiders say the 18-year-old beauty has long struggled with cutting and eating disorders and having a tough time coming to terms with the childhood bullying that destroyed her self-confidence, Demi knew it was time to make a change.
“She was bullied in school,” the snoop tells PEOPLE. “She fought through eating disorders and has struggled with cutting… Demi is taking control by getting help…Like many other teenage girls, she struggled a lot to fit in and find acceptance,” the friend adds. “She’s very sensitive, very intuitive and that is part of what makes her a wonderful performer – very talented. It is double-edged sword. I think she felt that the hard time she had [in school], problems with kids who were incredibly vicious made her stronger. But none of us feels strong every day.”

Stopping short of calling Demi suicidal, yet another informant says the teen star just doesn’t have the same love of life that once radiated through her smile.
“She definitely had body-image issues. She was always conscious of her weight.”
On Saturday, Lovato bailed out on opening for the JoBros in Peru due to health reasons, according to a sign posted outside the venue, and posted on Twitter by the Disney star’s fans. Lovato’s Twitter account was also reportedly deleted on the same day.
We’re also hearing reports that Demi has received a cheer of encouragement from former love rival Taylor Swift. Swift, as you may recall, had a bitter breakup with Lovato’s ex Joe Jonas.
“Taylor was one of the first people to call Demi’s team after news broke that she was in a treatment center.”
Can’t speak for anyone else, but we’re pretty proud of Demi for reaching out for help. It’s tough to admit that you may have some mental health issues, particularly for a clean-cut star in the public eye. Here’s to hoping she’s back to her optimistic self real soon.
