There were lots of major manis at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, but Zooey Deschanel’s was by far the most fun (hmm … doesn’t that sound familiar?!). The New Girl star, and best actress nominee, tried a peachy hue this time around, adding sparkles to her digits and tiny TVs to her thumbs.
L’Oréal Paris consulting nail expert Tom Bachik was the mastermind behind the look, and aimed to keep the polish “soft and fresh but sparkly.” So how’d he do it?
“First, I used a thin coat of a yellow, topped with a coat of a peachy pink shade to soften the tone,” he explains. Then, “using a chunky silver metallic, I chose random areas on the nails and faded the glitter out.”
To make Deschanel’s talons really pop, Bachik applied Swarovski crystals in the glitter areas “to create a peach ‘galaxy,’” he says. And finally, “I hand-painted deco televisions on the thumbs for fun!”
Bachik suggests using L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in “Tweet Me,” “Sweet Nothings” and the Diamond Collection “Sparkalicious” ($ 4.99 each at drugstores) to start the look (sadly you’ll have to procure your own Swarovski crystals). Add tiny TVs to your thumbs using black, and voilà! Tell us: Do you think Deschanel’s manicure is cute? Are you experimental with nail art?
