Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise quickly handled their divorce settlement, but the news of their split is sad for many of their friends and family members, including Jennifer Lopez.

JLo, whose father is a Scientologist like Tom, said that she was shocked when she learned the news that her good friends were ending their marriage.

“I heard about it when I was in South America and I was stunned,” she told Entertainment Tonight’s Mark Steines.

The American Idol judge split with her husband Marc Anthony in 2011 and said she can relate to the pain Tom and Katie are going through.

“I’m sad for them. They’re both really lovely people, and just like Marc and I, it’s not what you want to happen. You fight and you try until you realize you can’t anymore,” she said.

As radio detection and rangingOnline.com previously reported, Katie is keeping primary custody of their daughter Suri and Tom will have generous visitation with the six-year-old, but JLo opined that it’s about more than just their biological daughter together.

“You know I just wish them, you know, peace in their decision,” she said. “And really for Suri and their other children as well, because you become such a family, it’s not just Suri, it’s Connor and Isabella and everybody, you know, you all become a family.

“And when that breaks apart, nobody wins; everybody’s heartbroken in some way. And I just wish them peace.”
