Singing star Justin Bieber is raising his voice against animal cruelty.
The most Googled name in music is also the newest well-coiffed coverboy for People for the Ethical Treatment (PETA), joining broody pooch Bijoux in a campaign — featuring the blaring tagline “My World Includes Compassion for Animals. Yours Should Too” — to encourage his legion of Beliebers to bypass breeders and give shelter animals a chance.
“I got him about a year ago,” the Grammy-nominated heartthrob says of his frequent canine companion, Sam (Not Pictured), who Justin adopted when he made the move from his native Canada to the US in 2009.
Justin says he used to visit pet shelters back home with his dad and encourages his Tween Army to do the same, noting that they could be giving animals like Sam and Bijoux a new lease on life (No Pun Intended).
“We moved to a city where we didn’t really know anybody, so I kinda wanted a friend around. And Sam was kinda like that friend,” Bieber explains. “My Dad and I used to go and hang out … just go and visit the different animals and stuff. It’s really important that people adopt. I really encourage going out to an animal shelter or a place where you can get a dog that has been abandoned or doesn’t have a home.”
