The Newsroom Meets The Classroom: Glee producers have begun chats to get veteran broadcast journalist Katie Couric to join the stampede of big name celebs — among them Britney Spears, Olivia Newton-John, and Gwyneth Paltrow – making guest appearances on the Emmy-nominated comedy-musical.
We hear Katie is being courted to appear as herself in a brief cameo alongside spitfire Cheerios cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). If FOX and spokesfolks for Couric are successful, the host of the CBS Nightly News could find herself wandering the halls of McKinley for Glee’s buzzworthy Super Bowl Sunday special, airing Feb. 6. The program is being touted as one of the most expensive television episodes ever made and will feature a mashup cast performance of Michael Jackson’s 1982 charttopper “Thriller.”
Just weeks ago, the news anchor criticized Glee stars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Dianna Agron for their provocative poses in a controversial spread in the November issue of GQ Magazine. Couric, however, is a self-proclaimed “Gleek” who often enjoys the program with her 14-year-old daughter.
