It was a spectacular night, with more than 1,200 members of the creative and digital fraternity as well as clients gathered for the Kyoorius Advertising Awards and the Kyoorius Digital Awards held in Mumbai last evening. Kyoorius, in association with D&AD, gave away 37 Blue Elephants and 4 Black Elephants at the awards ceremony at the NSCI Indoor Stadium.
For those who missed Ogilvy & Mather at Goafest, the Kyoorius Awards made up for that as O&M swept the awards. It emerged as the most awarded agency, with 45 In-Book wins, seven Blue Elephants and three Black Elephants.
In-Book winners were also nominees for Blue Elephants. The two juries awarded a total of 37 Blue Elephants, with 24 Blue Elephants awarded in Advertising and 13 in Digital.
Across the advertising categories, the 24 Blue Elephant winners included campaigns by Grey Worldwide, Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis India, Sapient, DDB Mudra, Happy Creative Services, BBDO, Ideas@Work, Scarecrow, BBH, Soho Square, Creativeland Asia, First December Films and Candid Marketing.
In the Digital awards, the 13 Blue Elephant winners included works by Hungama Digital Services, Creativeland Asia, Fractalink Design Studio, Webchutney, Sapient, 120 Media Collective, BBH India, DDB Mudra, NicheMinds, and Ogilvy & Mather.
The audience was enthralled with the entire setup of the stage, the performances and the entertainment. The man who pulled off this spectacular show, Rajesh Kejriwal, Founder & CEO of Kyoorius, said, “We tried to create an experience for the industry with graphics, light, sound and music, so the entire experience was created around these four ingredients and I am happy that people have loved it.”
Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman & Creative Director, South Asia, Ogilvy & Mather India, said, “It is a very emotional moment for me as everyone who has brought glory to O&M is a very young person, and if we have been able to create an atmosphere where young talent comes and excels, for me there is no bigger moment. So, when they won today, it was a wonderful moment for me – it is their work and I sometimes get their glory. I am glad that they are adding glory to the brand and to themselves through their hard work and I salute them for it.”
“Out of all the work winning an Elephant tonight, it’s a close call between ‘Google Reunion’ and ‘Seatbelt Crew’ but for me it is ‘Google Reunion’. We run this company from our heart and next year also we will follow our heart. Regarding how Kyoorius have done the entire thing, I can only think of two words – Fantastic! , Amazing! And I haven’t seen a show like this for a first-timer ever in my life, and I think Kyoorius will go a long way,” added Pandey.
An ecstatic Manish Bhatt, Founder & Director, Scarecrow Communications, said excitedly, “I have been to Cannes for the last fourteen years, but what I saw today was better than Cannes. In fact, I can say that Cannes can learn things from here!”
Unlike other awards programmes, Kyoorius Awards have no gold, silver or bronze, and it is the jury’s prerogative to award more than one Blue Elephant in a category, or none at all. Blue Elephants are selected from among the In-Book winners, and represent the very highest achievement in creativity.
Kyoorius received a total of 988 entries across Advertising and Digital. Grey Worldwide, Ideas@Work, Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis India, Famous Innovations, Happy Creative Services, Hungama Digital Services, Creativeland Asia, Soho Square, Scarecrow Communications, Thought Blurb, DDB Mudra, Candid Marketing, BBDO India, BBH, Webchutney, Fractalink Design Studio, Isobar, iContract and Sapient were among the 114 In-Book winners at the 2014 Kyoorius Advertising Awards & Kyoorius Digital Awards.
Raj Kurup, Founder & Creative Chairman, Creativeland Asia, said, “I am happy that the awards are back and Kyoorius has put up a spectacular show to start with and deserve a mention for the fantastic work they have done. The way the entire thing has been executed is brilliant and I haven’t seen anything like this. I am also quite impressed with the way the awards have been organised – quite fair and good work has won. Regarding our work being appreciated here, I am happy and I feel that good work should always be admired and we are also happy to appreciate work from anywhere around which is ‘good’ and ‘real’ and I have always stood by that.”
Bhatt said, “We are glad that our work ‘Pinkesh’ did well here also, but we are more ecstatic about the fact that we won a writing award. D&AD and Kyoorius are actually raising the standard of Craft awards. Keeping in mind that we didn’t have many entries, but still won two Blue Elephants, I can say that it was more than what we expected. It has been a fabulous year for my team. As far as the environment and the overall awards organisation are concerned, hats off to Rajesh.”
A Black Elephant is like a Grand Prix and they are awarded for ground-breaking work. Four Black Elephants were awarded last night, with DDB Mudra getting one for ‘The Last Telegram’ in the category Direct Response. O&M took home the rest of the three Black Elephants in three categories – ‘The Good Road’ campaign in Technological Innovation, ‘Cleft To Smile’ campaign for Best Use of Social Media, and ‘Google Reunion’ in the Online Branded Films category.
Kejriwal commented, “Some of the learning from this year, based on the feedback which I have received, are that we need to curate a bit more, and will try adding a few more elements which will stimulate young blood at the awards show next year.”
