‘Once Upon a Time’: All hope is not lost for Gideon

If you’re anything like us, you were half heartbroken at the news that Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and Belle’s (Emilie de Ravin) son Gideon grew up to be evil — and half ecstatic that we get to see more of Giles Matthey and this awesome new character.

After what seems like eons of Rumple and Belle trying and failing to find happiness, this last blow seemed too big to ever recover from.

Luckily, it looks like all hope might not be lost for Gideon and his parents. With time working differently in the realm of the Black Fairy (Jaime Murray) — witness the visit from grown-up Gideon — the chance for Rumple and Belle to save their son is still viable. If they can somehow manage to find their way to this alternate world, they can feasibly steal baby Gideon back and prevent him from turning evil.

“That is the question of the second half of the season,” executive producer Edward Kitsis tells Entertainment Weekly, of this new possibility. “That is exactly what we are going to explore.”

We’d obviously be bummed to lose Giles Matthey as Rumbelle’s adorably evil baby boy, but at least there’s still some hope that the couple can get their baby back instead of missing out on his entire life.

We’ll have to wait until the show returns in March to find out when and how our heroes will make it to this new world — but in the meantime, executive producer Adam Horowitz has shared one more teaser: The title of Episode 16.

We may be jumping to conclusions here, but the Black Fairy seems to be the most important mother at the moment. After all, she’s not only Rumple’s real mom, she’s also presumably going to become the surrogate mom for Gideon as he grows up.

We’re still holding out hope that the Black Fairy isn’t as evil as she first appears — we totally saw some emotion when Rumple confronted her in the Enchanted Forest — but if she is, we’re going to need Gideon to get as far away from her as possible. Pronto.

“Once Upon a Time” returns March 5th at 8 p.m ET/PT on ABC.
