It’s good to be Queen….
On Monday, Buckingham Palace launched this page called “The British Monarchy” on Facebook, where Brits, admirers, and fans of the Royal Family can “like” Queen Elizabeth II. At press time, The Queen already boasted more than 41,000 friends!
“We’re delighted to welcome the British Monarchy to Facebook,” a spokesperson for the web’s leading social networking site. “People can now have a direct connection with the Royal Family through their page to see a unique glimpse into palace life.”
The British monarch is hardly the first political figure to reach out to her constituency via the Interwebs. President Obama is on Facebook as is Vice-President Joe Biden, as well as a host of US Senators. At 84, however, Queen Elizabeth is almost as tech savvy as your average Westernized teenager. She has her own cell phone, a private email account, her own YouTube page, and frequently post updates on her burstling schedule on Twitter.
