Sometimes fighting crime, saving the world, or simply looking cool aren’t all about what you do and how you do it, but about the car you drive.
The movies have seen their fair share of heroes, but sometimes their best sidekick of all, their vehicles, that help save the day. The vigilante teens who return in “Kick-Ass 2″ this week can attest to that, with Red Mist’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) gadget-filled Mist Mobile in the last film and Hit-Girl’s (Chloe Grace-Moretz) purple motorcycle in the sequel.
From transforming robot cars to the sleek and sexy rides of Mr. Bond, these tricked-out wheels are the most kick-ass cars the big screen has seen.

- Red Mist Mobile – ‘Kick-Ass’ (2010)
The Mist Mobile is a pretty kick-ass car if we’ve ever seen one. Red Mist’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) costume-matching vehicle is hooked up with everything such as satellite navigation (“sat-nav” as he calls it), wi-fi for checking emergencies via his iPhone (necessary for every super villain), a rear-view camera, and most importantly, mood lighting (ohh yeah). And it also sprays mist, which apparently makes the people go wild. Sometimes the bad guys have the sweetest rides.
- Bumblebee – ‘Transformers’ (2007)
If you don’t think a car that turns into an ass-kicking robot is cool then let us convince you. Bumblebee can change his car appearance whenever he wants. After Megan Fox rudely calls him a “piece of crap” car, he moodily drives off (yeah, he drives himself too) and transformers from a beat-up classic to a shiny new vehicle. Also, he communicates via song clips so you’ll always get to hear some good tunes before fighting the Decepticons.
- Mach 6 – ‘Speed Racer’ (2008)
Although Speed Racer’s main car in the original manga and television series was the Mach 5, Emile Hirsch’s Speed also races the Mach 6 in the Wachowskis’ film. It’s equipped with auto jacks (perfect to hop over your opponents with), cutter blades (to chop down whatever’s in your way), spiked grip tires, and a bulletproof deflector. Not only will the Mach 6 kick some serious racing ass (as Speed does in this final race), but it’s also just a damn sexy car.
- Every Bond Car – ‘Goldfinger’ (1964)
Let’s be honest, the most badass (and sexiest cars) in cinematic history are all of James Bond’s rides (don’t pretend you never dreamed of owning one). But while all Bond cars are great, none compare to the classic beauty introduced in “Goldfinger” and brought back to much excitement in “Skyfall.” Equipped with a GPS dashboard (remember it’s the 60s), revolving license plates (can we get one of those?), armrest controls for machine guns and smoke screens, tire slashers, spewing oil, bulletproof screens, and, most helpful of all, an ejector seat, this is the ultimate pimped-out ride. No one gets more kick-ass than 007, especially when he’s behind the wheel of a Q creation.
- The Black Beauty – ‘The Green Hornet’ (2011)
Not only is the Black Beauty a gorgeous vehicle, but it’s equipped with everything needed to fight off bad dudes. Practically a shiny gun on wheels, Kato’s (Jay Chou) custom-built bulletproof car has two giant machine guns on the hood, two guns on the rear, tons of missiles, a flamethrower, and spikes that come out the sides. Oh and it also has suicide doors (so badass) and shoots out mini-bean bags, perfect for those less-violent types.
- The Tumbler – ‘Batman Begins’ (2005)
Christopher Nolan revamped the Batmobile in 2005, turning the originally sleek superhero vehicle into an indestructible monster. Calling the Tumbler a mere car would be an insult. This clunky, steel machine is more like a military tank, crushing cars to bits and blowing up everything in sight. With its machine guns, rocket launcher, jet engine, explosive mines, and landing hook, the Tumbler can pretty much get you out of any sticky situation. And just as a bonus, it also converts into the Batpod; thanks Lucius!
- Every ‘Fast and Furious’ Car (2009)
It’s kind of hard to pick one car from the “Fast and Furious” films because they’re all just so damn badass. Some have sexy bodies, some have glowing lights, and some are just furiously fast. In this drag race scene we see two of the top (and original) ‘Fast’ cars that Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) race to the near-death. The two daredevils go head-to-head and put their vehicles to the ultimate test: racing a train. Thank god for their insane fuel injections or else this would’ve been a messy disaster (don’t try this at home kids).
- The Ectomobile – ‘Ghostbusters’ (1984)
OK, we know the Ectomobile was a serious mess that needed practically every part repaired, but you have to admit how geekily cool it was. The original Ecto-1 and all of its variations were perfect to carry the team’s ghostbustin’ cargo while riding in style. If you’re doing any ghost catching, this vehicle will help get the job done.
- The Time Machine – ‘Back to the Future’ (1985)
Take a nerdy ’80s car, turn it into a time machine, and you’ve got the single most awesome ride ever — in the past, present, and future. While these cars were (kind of) cool at the time anyway with their hull-wing doors, Doc’s flux capacitor made the already-futuristic-looking vehice even more futuristic.
