Is Spice Power ready for a redux? Word on the Curb has it that The Spice Girls — whose hits like “Wannabe,” “Spice Up Your Life,” “Mama,” and “2 Become One” made them the best-selling the girl group of the ’90s — are hoping to regroup for another comeback tour.
However, the bandmembers will have a tough time convincing stylista Victoria Beckham to step back into her singing stilettos.
The English hitmakers — Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, and Melanie Chisholm — thrilled fans when they returned for a sold-out world trek in three years – the first time the original line-up had performed together since Halliwell left the group to go solo in 1998. Music industry insiders tell The Daily Mirror that the gals are eager to get back on stage but are struggling to persuade Beckham to join them. Posh vowed to hang up her microphone for good to concentrate on her budding fashion empire following their last jaunt.
A tipster gossips: “The girls are so excited. They are buzzing about getting back together and each have so many new ideas and so much to bring to the table. They are desperate to get Posh (Beckham) on board, but that is the sticking point. Although she’s still so nostalgic about the good old days, she has moved on now and is relishing the fashion world. They don’t want to give up on her, but have so many plans. The way things are going they might have to go on without her if she doesn’t come round soon.”
A musical based on the best of the band’s hits is expected to debut on the British stage in 2012.
