When Disney acquired Marvel Studios a few years ago, one of the things that got comic geeks really excited was the prospect of the studio making animated features with characters from the Marvel universe (even more exciting was the idea that maybe Pixar would do something with them, but that hasn’t happened so far). Now, we’ve got our first look at Disney and Marvel’s debut animated feature – but if you’re expecting familiar faces, you might be in for a surprise.

BIG HERO 6 Trailer #1 – Early Trailer by itsartmag
Big Hero 6 is the first collaborative animated film for the two creative powerhouses – a tale of a boy and his robot loosely inspired by a late ‘90s comic. Hiro, a 14-year-old prodigy, and his robot helper Baymax join a team of heroes working to defeat the “forces of antagonism” at work in the fictional city of San Fransokyo.
While there are other heroes on the team, including Go-Go Tamago and Wasabi No Ginger, Hiro and Baymax are “the beating heart of the movie,” according to codirector Don Hall.
If you couldn’t tell already, the story has a very anime-esque slant, but Hall and his codirector Chris Williams also wanted to infuse a traditionally Disney vibe as well. We’ll find out if they were successful when the film releases this November.
