Fall often means dark colors on the red carpet, but we’ve been pleasantly surprised to see a slew of stars step out in bright, bold prints this past week. It may be a little too soon to tell, but we think we’re seeing the beginnings of a fun new trend for fall.
Katy Perry kicked things off on Thursday, donning a simple, sophisticated swan-print frock by Wes Gordon. The following day, January Jones also wore a swan-print Wes Gordon creation, hers a dress with a high-low hemline and lace insets.
On Monday, Olivia Munn gave the eye-catching trend a try in a blue-and-black flared dress with crisscross detailing. And Tuesday, Kerry Washington took a big fashion risk in a graphic, knee-length Mary Katrantzou design. And those are just some of the patterned looks we’ve spotted in the past few days.
Of the four, Perry’s was your favorite, earning 74 percent of ‘Love It’ votes in Last Night’s Look. (You weren’t quite as keen on Munn and Washington’s ensembles.) So if you’re interested in trying the trend at home, we suggest you take a cue from Perry or Jones and pick a piece that is based on a more neutral hue — navy, white or black — and finished with pops of bright colors.
